The
first passenger rope-way was built in 1956; it was equipped with passenger
seats and connected Dragalevtzi and Bay Krastyo.
At
the end of 1960's Sofia Municipality funded a new section of that rope-way.
In 1968 the second section, connecting Bay Krastyo and Goli Vrah was
completed. The passengers at that time were able to get from the Sofia
outskirts to the vicinity of the Cherni Vrah peak only for 30 minutes.
The
specifications of the passenger seat rope-way Dragalevtzi - Goli Vrah
are as follows:

Number of the rope-way stations - 4;
Maximum passenger capacity - 300 passengers per hour;
Speed - 2 m/s.
Travel time between terminuses - 30 minutes;
Seat capacity - 2 passengers

The
first passenger cabin rope-way in Bulgaria was build and put into operation
in 1962. This rope-way was manufactured and delivered by the Austrian
company Girak brothers. Now this rope-way is closed for reconstruction
and modernization.
In
April 1983 for a very short period the Austrian company Doppelmeyer
delivered and put into operation a new rope-way - Simeonovo - Aleko.
This rope-way is the longest line on the Balkan peninsula - its length
is 6,300 m. For 30 minutes the habitants and visitors of Sofia can get
from the city to the Aleko tourism and resort Centre, which is situated
in the heart of the Vitosha mountain.

In
1983 the first stationary double ski-lift in Bulgaria called "Selimitza"
was put into operation at the place Konjarnika in the Vitosha mountain.
