A public-transport passes bureau was established on 4 February 2003 in the pedestrian underpass next to St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia. Use the new kind of

TICKET OF SEGMENTS FOR 5 TRIPS

The price of the ticket of segments for 5 trips is 1.75 levs.

The new ticket reduces the single-trip fare down to 0.35 levs

with no restriction in the time of using it.

THE TICKET CONSISTS OF 5 SINGLE-TRIP SEGMENTS OF THE SAME NUMBER

AND CAN BE USED BY ONE PASSENGER ONLY.

Punching the ticket segments, on public conveyances, does payment. For each following trip the already punched segment that has remained from the previous trip must be torn off and the next one must be punched.

CHECKING THE VALIDITY OF A TICKET OF 5 SINGLE-TRIP SEGMENTS

A paying passenger is the one who has punched his/her ordinal, unused segment of his/her ticket at getting on the public conveyance. The current-trip segment is valid provided that Segment 5 (the bearer) of the same number and price marked on it is presented.

All 5 segments of the ticket are of the same number. A passenger who has presented the current-trip segment, of the punch pattern of the public conveyance, with Segment 5 (the bearer) but of different numbers is considered a passenger of irregular transport document, and will be subjected to sanction.

Do not use segments left by another passenger!

At check, inspectors compare whether the segment used for the current trip corresponds to Segment 5 (the bearer) possessed by the passenger. The inspector tears off a stub inscribed “counterfoil” and returns the rest of the segment to the passenger, who keeps it until he/she has got off the public conveyance, thus being able and obliged to present it at a repeated check, together with Segment 5.

THE SERVICE KNOWN AS “AUTOMATED SYSTEM OF CHARGING THE PASSENGERS IN THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN SOFIA ON THE PRINCIPLE OF CONTACT-FREE SMART CARS"  HAS BEEN RENDERED SINCE 6 SEPTEMBER 2001.

Caring for the convenience of its passengers, Sofia Public Transport Company - Holdihg EAD has experimentally adopted a new traveling-charge system.

The experiment has been carried out on Bus Line 66. Payment is done by punching a ticket bought as from the driver so from a coin-operated machine on the bus.

PASSENGERS WHO BUY ELECTRONIC CARDS SHALL PAY LOWER PRICES.

THE ELECTRONIC CARDS SHALL BE FREE OF CHARGE FOR THE DURATION OF THE EXPERIMENT.

The electronic card reports the trip as it is approached to the charging device on the public conveyance once, as its holder gets on it and again, as he/she gets off it. The distance to approach the card to should not exceed 5 centimetres. A sum that is equal to the fare for the distance you have really traveled is deducted from the total value of the card. By the electronic card your trip can be quickly, reliably and easily paid for.

THE ELECTRONIC CARD

The electronic card shall be free of charge for the duration of the experiment on Bus Line 66. It can be received against a 2-lev deposit.

  • The electronic card is issued, charged, and recharged at the bureau at the initial stop of Bus 66, in Hladilnika (The Refrigerator) Residential District.

  • The electronic card can be charged and recharged to a sum at your desire, not lower than the fare for traveling from the initial to the end stop on the route.

  • The electronic card expiry date is the end of the experiment period. After this end, the sums in the card that will not have been spent shall be refunded.

  • With the electronic card, the trip fares shall be by 10% lower than those for travelling with a ticket..

    WAY OF CHARGING FARES

  • As soon as one gets on the bus, the electronic card must be approached to the reader of any of the charging devices, to a distance not longer than 5 cm. The sum registered is in accordance with the fare for travelling to the end stop on the route. Just before getting off, the card must again be approached to the reader, for the purpose of refunding the sum equal to the fare for the not travelled part of the route.

  • The correct functioning of the electronic card is confirmed by a green light signal.

  • The incorrect functioning of the electronic card is reported by a red light signal.

  • The charging device signalizes for the lack of sum in the card. In such a case, the electronic card must be recharged.

  • There is a possibility for checking the current amount of the sum in the electronic card. Such a check can be had by means of the charging device, by pressing the BALANCE button and approaching the card to the reader of the device.

CHARGING THE TRANSPORTATION OF ACCOMPANYING PERSONS, LUGGAGE, AND DOMESTIC DOGS WHILE USING THE ELECTRONIC CARD

  • The transportation of a piece of luggage of dimensions exceeding 60/40/40 cm, or a domestic dog, shall be charged by selecting the corresponding button, for the same part of the route and to the same fare as the holder of the electronic card.

  • The cardholder can as well pay for the transportation of the persons who accompany him/her, for the same route part, the same fare as the one he/she pays for him/herself.

CHECKING THE VALIDITY OF ELECTRONIC CARDS

Inspectors are equipped with special devices that check the validity of electronic cards.
