AUTOTRANSPORT EAD is a joint-stock company managed by its Board of Directors through its Executive Director. The structure of AUTOTRANSPORT EAD includes a central Administration and three operational departments (garages): "Zemlyane", "Malashevtsi" and "Druzhba", which are located in the four ends of the city.

As of January 2006, the public bus transport serves within the territory of Sofia Municipality totally 94 routes - 43 in the inner city, 51 in the city outskirts, as well as 2 hiking lines.

These routes are served by Autotransport EAD daily with a total of 431 buses

of which:

-296 articulated buses,

-258 solo boses.

   
The company performs annually a scheduled trip exceeding 33 million km. 
   

431 buses are available for the public transport.

   
The public bus transport transports annually ca. 242 million passengers. 
   

The new requirements for a modern transport necessitate new more economic, more comfortable and environment-friendly vehicles. The alternative fuels program is being implemented - natural gas engines are introduced in the public transport.

The developing of an Control and Monitoring Automated System was initiated in 1998. This is a computerized system for monitoring and tracing the movement of buses along their route and time-keeping in real time. The first system of this kind was released in 1989 in the "Druzhba" garage. Since 1999, all four garages have been included in the system improving considerably the operative activity. 

The implementation of the automated system for operative control and management of the transport, which is based on the GPS covering the whole range of vehicles will be completed until 2007.
